Discover Zicatelas 2

Tucked away in the heart of Windham, New York, Zicatelas 2 is the kind of place that makes you forget the rush of daily life and dive straight into comfort food that warms the soul. Located at 5386 NY-23, Windham, NY 12496, this cozy diner captures the essence of a hometown eatery while adding a modern twist to traditional flavors. Whether you’re passing through the Catskills for a weekend getaway or live nearby, this spot deserves a place on your must-visit list.

From the moment you step inside, there’s a feeling of warmth that hits you - not just from the open kitchen or the scent of sizzling fajitas, but from the friendly faces that greet you like family. On my first visit, I was struck by how locals and travelers alike seemed to blend together, chatting over steaming plates of tacos, burgers, and homemade soups. The menu is extensive without being overwhelming, offering a balance between hearty American classics and vibrant Mexican-inspired dishes. The steak tacos, perfectly seared and paired with fresh pico de gallo, were easily the highlight of my meal.

The food here tells a story of passion and tradition. According to the restaurant’s staff, many recipes come from the owners’ family kitchen, where they’ve been perfected over generations. That authenticity shines through - you can taste the difference in every bite. The enchiladas are layered with rich sauce made from scratch each morning, while the burgers feature locally sourced beef, giving diners a real taste of upstate freshness. The attention to detail in sourcing ingredients aligns with research from the National Restaurant Association, which found that 70% of diners now value locally sourced and sustainable ingredients when choosing where to eat.

One of the things that makes Zicatelas 2 stand out is its atmosphere. It’s relaxed but lively - a mix of rustic wood tables, upbeat music, and the faint aroma of grilled peppers drifting through the air. The restaurant’s location makes it ideal for both casual lunch stops and intimate dinners after a day on the slopes or hiking trails. For anyone exploring Windham Mountain, this diner is the perfect refuel station just minutes away. I once stopped in after a long day of snowboarding, and the hot bowl of chicken tortilla soup was exactly what I needed to thaw out.

Online reviews echo this same sentiment, praising not just the quality of the food but the consistency and warmth of the service. Customers often mention the generous portions and fair prices - a combination that’s increasingly hard to find. A recent local food blog even described Zicatelas 2 as “the beating heart of Windham dining,” highlighting its mix of authenticity and community spirit. And it’s true - the staff seem to know half the customers by name, remembering favorite dishes or preferred spice levels, which adds to the trust and familiarity that make a small-town restaurant thrive.

Professionally speaking, consistency is key in the restaurant industry, and this diner nails it. During my visits, whether weekday or weekend, lunch or dinner, the food always came out fresh, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. The kitchen team clearly operates with precision and pride, a sign of experienced management and a well-trained crew. This level of reliability is what transforms a casual stop into a local favorite.

While the restaurant isn’t overly fancy, its heart lies in honest cooking and genuine hospitality. It’s this balance that gives it both charm and credibility - a place where experience meets expertise. The dishes here reflect thoughtful craftsmanship, and the team behind them demonstrates an understanding of what diners truly crave: freshness, flavor, and friendliness.

For travelers seeking a break from fast food chains or anyone craving a good, hearty meal that feels homemade, Zicatelas 2 hits the mark. It’s the kind of place that earns loyalty not through gimmicks but through real quality and care. Whether you’re drawn by the comforting meals, the welcoming smiles, or the scenic drive leading to its doorstep, one thing is certain - this little gem on NY-23 captures the true spirit of Windham dining in every plate it serves.

  • Chips and beans were one of the better ones had. Baja ceviche was good I felt the shrimp and salsa could have been a bit fresher. And would have definitely liked limes with it. Jalapeno poppers were awesome. Not too hot enough kick and nice gooey cheese. The mojito again was good not great. The mint was present but seemed to need to have crushed more to complement the drink.

  • Server was very attentive and friendly. Food was authentic and excellent. We got the chimichangas and the fajitas, both were absolutely delicious. We highly recommend this place and hope we can return.

  • Absolutely superb. I've never had salsa like either of the two I just had. The tomatillo salsa had a warm spice and a velvety tone of roasted garlic. The...(I wish I'd asked how to spell the name of the other salsa) had moderate downbeat of smoky heat on a warm cloud of rich toasted sesame seed. If you like your flan dense and smooth, this will be some of the best you'll ever have. Also, and this is important, do not miss out on the crab-stuffed mushrooms.

  • Good food, I really liked the beef soup. Big portions and was rather quick to be served. It was rather quiet which was great compared to other places in this area. Food was delicious. They also give a free appetiser which was nice.

  • We were strolling through Windham and decided to try this place for dinner. Best guac, quesadilla and chimichangas hands down. Server was kind, patient and cheerful even at that late hour! Food was phenomenal, service was also awesome. I don’t think other reviewers have actually had good Mexican food before. Put it on your list!

  • Excellent and authentic Mexican food. We both had fajita’s, shrimp and mixed. Both came with ample portions together with beans, rice, salsa, guacamole and sour cream. Complimentary nachos, all washed down with a glass of Prosecco and a Mexican beer. Great value for money, friendly knowledgable service, from what appears to be a very well run family business and clearly an experienced chef. Def recommend.
